Fields was a crewman aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk during the mid-2260s.
He was serving in the phaser room when the ship went into battle with the Romulans during the Neutral Zone Incursion around stardate 1709. (TOS: "Balance of Terror")
He reported a suspicious engineering crewman on deck 14 around stardate 2715 when there was a shipwide search for escaped mental patient Simon Van Gelder. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")
He was attached to a security division around that time when the children of Miri's world were discovered. (TOS: "Miri")
He was present during the Enterprise's first encounter with Khan Noonien Singh. (TOS: "Space Seed")

Background
Fields was played by John Arndt, apparently a regular extra during TOS Season 1. He had previously played murdered Crewman Sturgeon in TOS: "The Man Trap". His later character appearances were all unnamed, except "Balance of Terror" when he was referred to as Fields. Assuming they were all the same character, Mr. Fields must have been a career generalist (similar to Mr. Kyle and Mr. Leslie) since he appeared in a command division yellow jumpsuit in "Balance of Terror," a command yellow officer uniform in "Dagger of the Mind," and red security uniform in "Miri."
