The following is a list of unidentified non-humanoid species observed in the 24th century.

Alien lifeform[]

An alien lifeform was seen on a viewscreen depicting data from the USS Enterprise-D's library computer. (TNG: "The Last Outpost", "Datalore")

Ba'ku animals[]

Dark matter nebula planet animal[]

On the coastal regions of this planet, cries of this unseen animal could be heard in the background. (DS9: "Rocks and Shoals")

Many scenes of this episode were shot outdoors in the Sun Valley region near Los Angeles. The noises that could be heard in the audio were actually seagulls.

Desert planet predator []

While stranded on a desert planet in 2381, Ensigns Brad Boimler and Beckett Mariner were charged by a large animal whose body was impervious to phaser fire. Mariner and Boimler were able to shelter themselves from the creature inside the shuttlecraft Yosemite, though it devoured their emergency rations. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie") Later that year, a creature of this type was present in a display at Narj's Miraculous Menagerarium. (LD: "I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee")

Ferenginar creatures[]

Two statues depicting animals could be seen in Ishka's home on Ferenginar. (DS9: "Family Business")

Flying turtle-like creature []

A species of creature resembling a flying, feathered turtle was present on both Dulaine and Areolus in 2381. Its members had four wings on their bodies, rather than legs. (LD: "The Least Dangerous Game", "A Mathematically Perfect Redemption") That same year, a number of these creatures were present in a display at Narj's Miraculous Menagerarium. (LD: "I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee")

Foot-eating creature[]

This creature seemed to feed on the feet of humanoids, as it did to an officer aboard the USS Cerritos in 2381.

Before Doctor T'Ana cut off her patient's foot with a chainsaw, the foot-eating creature was already in the process of digesting his toes. (LD: "Mining The Mind's Mines")

Footprint and cell sample aliens []

Footprints and corresponding cell samples of several species were stored in the library computer of the Enterprise-D. Samples of at least five alien species were compared to the footprints and cell sample of the Tarchanne prior to its discovery. None of the samples was similar to the Tarchannen III lifeform however. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")

Goralis III animals[]

Goralis Wolf — A wolf-like animal from the Goralis system

While stranded on Goralis III in 2375, Worf killed a large furry mammal, somewhat similar to a wolf, for food. Worf also mentioned the planet having predators that might pose a threat to him. (DS9: "Penumbra")

The animal Worf returned with was described in the episode's script as "a dead wolf-like ANIMAL." [1]

Grasshopper-like creature[]

Lizard-like grasshopper — a grasshopper-like creature

While on a mission of exploration to the surface of a planet with the rest of the crew of a Medusan vessel, Zero encountered this lizard-like animal that hopped around like a grasshopper. It turned to look at them, and it apparently didn't experience the ill effects that most species did when looking upon a Medusan; it is possible there wasn't enough time for the creature to go insane, because it was immediately eaten by a multi-legged creature that was camouflaged as a rock. Horned creature[]

Reptile Communicator — A horned creature

The stylized image of a possibly reptilian or saurian creature with a unicorn-like horn could be seen on an Alpha Quadrant terrorist communicator, and as a badge used by two Delta Quadrant species: the Mari and the Ledosians. (TNG: "Starship Mine"; VOY: "Random Thoughts", "Natural Law")

Hysperian dragon []

The planet Hysperia was home to creatures resembling dragons from Earth mythology, which some Hysperians kept as pets. One such creature was also present on Queen Paolana's cruiser, the Monaveen. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

This species was only depicted via graphics on a viewscreen and an MSD.

Moon creature[]

A Delta Quadrant Mikhal Traveler claimed to have landed on a moon only to have discovered (after sustained moonquakes) that it was actually a creature: a living being so massive that it generated its own gravitational field, and so immense that it supported its own ecosystem. Another traveler, who had visited the system in 2373, expressed skepticism, as his sensors had not picked up anything like that. (VOY: "Darkling")

Multi-legged predator[]

This multi-legged creature was able to camouflage itself to look like a rock, in order to blend into its surroundings and catch its prey off-guard. This was what happened to a grasshopper-like lizard that Zero encountered while they were exploring an alien world. (PRO: "Preludes")

New Earth primate[]

The New Earth primate was an intelligent - but non-sentient - primate species native to the planet called "New Earth."

Kathryn Janeway attempted to communicate with the primate during her brief stay on the planet in 2372, claiming she sensed intelligence in it. However, Chakotay doubted it could be domesticated, Janeway first encountered the animal while sitting in the bath Chakotay made for her, and once more while collecting insect samples from her traps, it even warned Janeway about a incoming dangerous ion storm even though Janeway first thought it was looking at her insect traps (VOY: "Resolutions")

Alan Sims was responsible for casting this primate. When the script called for an alien primate, Sims found a spider monkey which, on command, could walk on its hind legs with its tail erect. "At first Rick Berman just laughed. He couldn't believe that a spider monkey – which you could find in any zoo – would look convincingly alien. But when I showed him photographs of what the monkey could do, he said, 'That looks alien enough to me. Book him!'" (Star Trek 30 Years, p. 46)

Rat-like creature[]

In 2381, a small, rat-like creature was seen scurrying across a cable leading to a lift at the Orion Pirate Outpost. (LD: "We'll Always Have Tom Paris")

A recolored version of this creature was later present during the holodeck movie sequences in LD: "Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus".

Rigel IV aliens[]

Spaceflight Chronology alien creatures — Aliens encountered on Rigel IV

These aliens, encountered on Rigel IV, were displayed on viewscreens depicting data from the Enterprise-D library computer. (TNG: "The Last Outpost", "Datalore")

These drawings are from the Spaceflight Chronology. In the book, these images are presented as drawings of aliens encountered by the first Humans to visit Rigel IV. Only the encounter with the creature on the left was given by the captain in his log. He found the creature somewhat reminiscent of a porcupine. Its tentacles were waving in the air in anger, as a Rigellian jeweler was refusing to sell a large diamond to the creature for the amount it was offering for the jewel

Rhino-like creature[]

This Rhino-like creature was native to the planet Orion. (LD: "Something Borrowed, Something Green")

Ruah IV species[]

Several animal species lived on the landmass of the planet Ruah IV as of 2369. (TNG: "The Chase")

Slug-like creature[]

Giant slug attacks Tendi — A giant slug attacking Tendi

While performing anomaly consolidation duty aboard the Cerritos in 2381, Ensign D'Vana Tendi accidentally knocked over a storage canister, releasing a large, gelatinous slug-like creature that promptly devoured her. Although Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Sam Rutherford managed to save their crew member and shrink the creature with a hypospray injection, Tendi was still quite traumatized from the ordeal. (LD: "The Spy Humongous")

Slug-o-Cola slug[]

The labels on Slug-o-Cola bottles featured an image of an apparently man-sized, slug-like tentacled creature, gorging on the cola. (DS9: "Profit and Lace")

Soukara lizard[]

Soukara Iguana — An iguana from the planet Soukara

The Soukaran iguana was a type of lizard native to the jungles of the planet Soukara. (DS9: "Change of Heart")

Soukara mating creatures[]

These two creatures made mating calls to each other as Jadzia Dax and Worf traversed the jungles of Soukara in 2374. Upon hearing them howl together after calling and responding, Dax mused, "Another happy couple." (DS9: "Change of Heart")

These creatures were only heard off-screen.

Trophy skulls[]

Several skulls, which appeared non-humanoid, were in evidence on a Hirogen trophy wall in 2374. (VOY: "Hunters")

A large skull was hanging in a net aboard a Hirogen ship in 2374. It was from a lifeform which was previously hunted down by the Hirogen. (VOY: "Prey")
