Gagarin IV was the inhabited fourth planet of its system, in the Gamma 7 sector. In the mid-24th century, this planet was the home of the Darwin Genetic Research Station, a Federation outpost. (TNG: "Unnatural Selection")
The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 290) stated that the planet was named after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968), the first Human in space.
The planet model for Gagarin IV was first used for 'aucdet IX ("The Child"). It was later used for Galorndon Core ("The Enemy"), Barzan II ("The Price"), Jouret IV ("The Best of Both Worlds"), and Bilana III ("New Ground"). For its appearance as Gagarin IV, the model had a green color.
