The flashlight is a self contained device used to illuminate darkened areas. Used by search/rescue details, damage control details, others. One model is a square unit that appears to be a Luxeon LED unit that is palm sized. Featured on ''ST:TNG, DS-9'', the recent Star Trek movies, such as ''First Contact''. It may be possible that the light uses the same type of "regenerating" battery that the phaser uses, only that it powers a light, not a weapon. Background information is that the flashlight was invented on Earth, in the early 20th Century. Early models used a small incandescent bulb, while those in the 21st Century used Light Emitting Diodes, including the Luxeon Diodes, chemical batteries.
