Flavius was a historical figure in Earth history. He was a gladiator who participated in the gladiatorial games of the Roman Empire.
Enterprise historian Marla McGivers adored Flavius and made a painting of him. When Khan visited her quarters in 2267, he commented on her painting of Flavius, noting that it was "very good" and that she had a "fine technique." (TOS: "Space Seed")
