i have all the TOS episodes from DVD rips already, and i love them, but i'll be getting a new TV soon, and so i thought i'd upgrade my collection to HD versions ... knowing the never-ending popularity of the series, i had no doubt that such would be available, but all i can seem to find so far are these "remastered" versions. i had a look at one of them and immediately freaked out when i saw that they'd screwed around with the opening titles, substituting computer-generated graphics for the old titles. then i read somewhere that many of the old optical shots have been substituted as well. call me old-fashioned, but i can't cope with that; i find it visually very jarring, and it kind of really wrecks the whole thing for me ...

so what i'm looking for are HD versions where they didn't add any CGI crap, where they just hopefully took the old film masters and put them on blu-ray or something. does such a thing even exist, or am i out of luck?

thanks!

The Blu-Ray editions have both the remastered and original versions. -- sulfur 18:29, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, but as far as I can remember, they didn't clean up the footage for the Blu-ray transfers. Am I right?! The thing that personally frustrates me about the Blu-ray copies is the constant box format (whereby two vertical lines are displayed at both sides of the screen, instead of it being anamorphic), but that's a bit off-topic; sorry! --Defiant 20:42, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
Er... the blu-rays (like the DVDs) present it as it was originally shown. In 4x3 format. Same as TNG, DS9, and VOY. ENT was the only series shot in widescreen. -- sulfur 22:30, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
He may be referring to the fact that the black bars are hard-coded in the video rather than being generated by the player. Unfortunately, this is the standard for all HD content (broadcast and disc-based) - the only ways to display 4:3 content in HD are distorting/losing some picture, or hard-coding black bars...
