If files and/or images which are posted on the Trek Initiative site are ones that might be helpful to articles on this wiki, can we upload them here too, without risk of copyright infringement, or is it best to link to them on MA? --Defiant (talk) 08:53, September 12, 2013 (UTC)

I would treat material at the Trek Initiative much like we treated material at the DrexFiles(X), which is to say we only upload a fraction of it while referencing it liberally. Just to be safe though, I would ask Brandon Rhea to comment on this directly since he's running the show over there. That said, the images that are fair use there are fair use here. - Archduk3 09:45, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
Fair use always depends on the context, and is a claim made by the uploader of any specific file. If someone claims that an image can be "fairly used" in some or another TI article, it is his right (and, in the end, personal risk) to do so. If you take that image and reupload/use it here, its use here becomes your risk. :) Depending on the exact context, the claim of "fair use" here often holds - but that has not much to do with some other fair use claim on another website, but only with the fact that our articles often fulfill the typical fair use criteria. -- Cid Highwind (talk) 11:34, September 12, 2013 (UTC)
