If we take the word 'day' as meaning 'the length of time it takes a planet to revolve around its axis' and 'year' as 'length of time it takes for a planet to orbit its star' then how come, whenever anyone meets a new species they can discuss days and hours and it appears to mean the same thing for both of them?

Does anyone know?

It's generally assumed that such things are part of the technology magic of the universal translator. –Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 08:23, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
