Gabrielle Witty was a Human child in the fourth grade in the year 2151. A student in Miss Malvin's class at the Worley Elementary School in Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland on Earth, Gabrielle sent questions, letters, and drawings to Enterprise NX-01.

Gabrielle's question was "Can germs live in space?" and one of the few that was answered personally. Captain Archer delegated answering the question to ship's doctor, Phlox. Phlox recalled the Polycocyx astris as well as a peculiar cluster of spores located on a ship's hull. (ENT: "Breaking the Ice")
