Gallium arsinide was one of the substances revealed by USS Enterprise-D spectral analysis to comprise the sentient inorganic microbrain lifeform of Velara III. According to Geordi La Forge, this compound meant that the microbrain emitted light when charged. (TNG: "Home Soil")
