The Gamelan system was an inhabited planetary system. This system consisted of a primary, at least five planets including the inhabited Gamelan V, and the Meltasion Asteroid Belt.

On Stardate 44307.3, an unmanned garbage scow filled with highly radioactive waste material drifted into orbit of Gamelan V, threatening the planet's inhabitants.

The starship USS Enterprise-D responded to the planet's distress call, pulling the vessel out of orbit and tractoring it into the sun where it would meet its harmless destruction. (TNG: "Final Mission")
