Gaullism was a political movement in France.
In 2024, Europe was in a state of political turmoil. In France, the Gaullists had failed to deal with widespread student protests and were replaced by neo-Trotskyists, but they were unsuccessful as well. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part II")
Gaulism was named for Charles de Gaulle. The Star Trek Encyclopedia mentions that the Gaulists were (prior to the Neo-Trotskyists) the dominant party of the French National Assembly.
