A globular cluster was a kind of stellar cluster, so named because of its roughly spherical shape. Starship navigation within a globular cluster could be difficult because of gravimetric interference.
In 2369, the USS Enterprise-D charted a globular cluster, the Amargosa Diaspora. (TNG: "Schisms")
