In a '''gravimetric field''', light accelerates and when light leave the gravimetric field, it slows down again to the universal constant. This works because gravity itself is nothing more than a warp in the [[space]]-[[time]] continuum. According to Einstein, the space-time continuum is structured, like liquid water at rest. Gravity is created by mass. Mass pushes space out of the way. The effect might best be described as space being several rubber bands tight and in a grid. When a marble is put on the rubber bands, the bands warp or change from their original static appearance to allow for the marble.

USS Enterprise-B caught in nexus

The Enterprise-B caught in a gravimetric field.

A gravimetric field was an energy field that exerted a gravitational-like force on nearby objects.

In 2293, while attempting to rescue the SS Lakul and SS Robert Fox from the Nexus energy ribbon, the USS Enterprise-B became caught in a gravimetric field emanating from the ribbon's trailing edge. The field was of such size that it proved difficult to disrupt. Montgomery Scott theorized that an antimatter explosion directly ahead of the starship could be enough to break it free. Since the Enterprise was not carrying photon torpedoes, a resonance burst from its deflector dish was used to simulate such a blast, allowing the ship to escape. (Star Trek Generations)

The recurring subspace inversion of the Bajoran wormhole is accompanied by a surge in its gravimetric field, characterized as an energy wave. (DS9: "Destiny")

Signatures of gravimetric fields can be affected by quantum singularities, although not the type of quantum singularities used by the Romulans in their D'deridex-class warbirds. (DS9: "Visionary")

The Hirogen communications network was surrounded by gravimetric fields that were spawned from the station's quantum singularity power source. The gravimetric forces from these fields could effect starships as far as two light years away. (VOY: "Hunters")

In 2372, a surge from the Bajoran wormhole's gravimetric field caused a spike in the power output of the warp core aboard the USS Defiant. (DS9: "The Visitor")
