A grilled cheese was a type of sandwich food made with bread and cheese, served after being toasted.

In 2270, Montgomery Scott ordered a grilled cheese, on rye bread, from the USS Enterprise food synthesizer, and ended up being pelted with various sandwiches, pies, fruits and other food items. (TAS: "The Practical Joker")

Grilled cheese was also mentioned in the Pocket TOS novel How Much for Just the Planet?.
