HD DVD, or High Definition-Digital Video (or Versatile) Disc, is a next-generation DVD format and primary competitor of Blu-ray Disc in the next-gen DVD format wars.

Paramount Home Entertainment went HD-DVD exclusive starting with the release of Blades of Glory on 28 August 2007.

The remastered version of Star Trek: The Original Series was being released in a HD-DVD/DVD combination format by CBS Home Entertainment. The complete first season was released on 20 November 2007, with season 2 originally expected in mid-2008.

With Toshiba announcing their withdrawal from the HD-DVD market on 19 February 2008, all future releases on this media were entirely canceled. [1] [2] [3]
