The HMS Defiant was a British warship from the 18th century.
The USS Defiant NCC-1764 was named after this ship, and had a painting of it in its Briefing room. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II")
Background
Interestingly, there never was a real HMS Defiant. When writing "In a Mirror, Darkly Part II", the writers did a Google search for an "HMS Defiant", and mistook a website on the Defiant from the movie Damn the Defiant! for a real ship. However, it is always possible that, in the Star Trek universe, the HMS Defiant was a real ship serving in the Royal Navy.
