The Hayashi system was an uninhabited star system.
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D was preparing detailed exospheric charts of the system as a prelude to colonization. Its mission was interrupted by the USS Hood, concerning a recent discovery at Beta Stromgren. (TNG: "Tin Man")
In 2371, the location of the Hayashi system was labeled in the star chart Data and Picard were studying in stellar cartography aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (Star Trek Generations, okudagram)
"ha-YAH-she" was the system's pronunciation from the script pronunciation guide. [1]
