Heading was an expression of the direction a space vessel traveled in relative to the center of the galaxy. It was composed of two numbers: an azimuth (horizontal) value and an elevation (vertical) value, separated by the designator "mark". Each number could range between zero and three hundred and sixty degrees. (TNG: "Datalore") A heading of 000, mark 0 describes a direction toward the geometric center of the galaxy.[1]
