Hector Ilario in 2375.
Hector Ilario was a Starfleet lieutenant junior grade born in 2353. In 2372, he graduated from Starfleet Academy at the age of nineteen.
He was assigned to Deep Space 9 in 2375, where he served as helmsman on the Defiant. He piloted the ship in battle against six Jem'Hadar ships, which were destroyed. After this astounding victory, the crew of Deep Space 9 held a celebration for Ilario at Quark's. During the celebration, he requested that he be allowed to participate in a holosuite program with Doctor Bashir and Chief O'Brien, but they rejected as they valued their time on the holosuite together although they assured him that it was nothing personal. Ilario then commenced with drinking heavy amounts of Saurian brandy for over an hour, not wanting the celebration to end. Prior to this, Ilario never had real Saurian brandy, which he knew to be a favorite of Captain Sisko.
He was escorted to his quarters by Ezri Dax. After displaying his pride at his achievement and his wish that his friends from Starfleet Academy could have seen him fight the Jem'Hadar, he attempted to flirt with Dax. Although flattered, she shrugged off his attempt and left. Dax would prove to be the last person to see Ilario alive as later that night, at the age of twenty-two and only ten days after being assigned to Deep Space 9, Ilario was murdered by an individual using the TR-116 rifle. Investigation by Dax revealed that the murderer was Vulcan science officer named Chu'lak. (DS9: "Field of Fire")
- Hector Ilario was played by Art Chudabala. Although Dax referred to him as a "drunken ensign" while escorting him to his quarters, he was recognized as a lieutenant throughout the rest of the episode.
