Hercule-Savinien De Cyrano de Bergerac was the protagonist in the play Cyrano de Bergerac. He was a soldier of the French Guards in the 17th century. Cyrano fancied himself as a "philosopher, scientist, poet, musician, and duelist." He harbored a secret love for Roxane who was herself in love with Christien de Neuvillette, a soldier who served in the same regiment as Cyrano.

In 2367, Beverly Crusher did an adaptation of this play in which she gave the role of Cyrano de Bergerac to Reginald Barclay. (TNG: "The Nth Degree")

The character in the play was loosely based on the life of the historical Hercule-Savinien De Cyrano de Bergerac.
