- Captain Zimmerman was named for scenery designer Herman Zimmerman, who worked on many of the Star Trek series. His name was not mentioned in dialogue, it was simply listed on dedication plaques and an okudagram graphic of an arrival roster on a viewscreen. The graphics were also populated by a number of other in-jokes.
