Holophotography dates back to the 23rd Century, but the quality of imaging was considered inferior to the pictures taken by 24th Century holophotographers (VOY "Flashback"). These images were capable of being projected three-dimensionally, such as in Starfleet's security file of General Korrd ("Star Trek V: The Final Frontier").

Al Lorenzo, who was Chief of Operations on Decos Prime in 2375, liked to collect holophotos of himself sitting behind various captains' desks. He once traded an induction modulator to Nog for a loan of Captain Sisko's desk so he could take a holophoto of himself sitting behind it. (DS9: "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River")

USS Voyager kept holograms detailing the entire physiology of crewmembers in their medical records (VOY "Latent Image").

The Doctor took holophotography as a hobby and took a picture of Lewis Zimmerman and himself, as a memento of their reunion (VOY "Life Line").

Chakotay took a holophotograph of Species 8472 "Boothby" & himself while under reconissance (VOY "In the Flesh").
