The designation Homeworld refers to the planet, where a certain species originates from. For example, Earth is the homeworld of the Human species or Romulus is the homeworld of the Romulan species.

In some cases, more than one intelligent species originates from the same planet. Known examples are Trill or Xindus.

To call a planet a homeworld, it has not to be the site where a species evolved, but where the cultural and social origin of the certain species lies, just like it is the case with the Romulans, who evolved on the planet Vulcan but moved to their current homeworld Romulus almost 2000 years ago.
