Horror

A couple of horror films

Horror films (or horror movies) were a genre of 20th century Earth film intended to frighten audiences. Many low budget films of this nature were referred to as B movies. (VOY: "Future's End")

T'Pol couldn't understand why Humans would intentionally terrify themselves, yet Vulcan had a discipline which attempted to terrify Vulcans to test emotional control. (ENT: "Horizon") According to Trip Tucker, you had to be Human to appreciate them. (ENT: "Stigma")

In 2154, while planning movie night, Tucker asked T'Pol whether she was in the mood for a horror film or a musical, to which she replied that she didn't think she'd have time for either. (ENT: "Daedalus")

The filming and musical styles of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes "The Alternate" and "Empok Nor" take inspiration from horror films. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion (pp. 112 & 462))
There was as well a genre of horror fiction, with the novel Frankenstein being a classic of this genre.
The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 349) described the characteristics common to both the horror film and horror fiction genres. These genres evoked "primal features through violent and nightmarish story elements, frequently featuring supernatural antagonists."
