Doctor Howard Clarke
Doctor Howard Clarke was a human scientist in charge of a Federation science station on Ventax II.
He requested assistance from the USS Enterprise-D when Ventax was thrown into chaos after a series of minor tremors. Clarke was beamed to safety and explained to Captain Picard that the Ventaxians believed that these tremors were caused by Ardra, a devil in Ventax culture. They believed that for the years of peace, their ancestors sold their souls to Ardra and she was returning to claim them as slaves. The rest of Dr. Clarke's team were held captive by the Ventaxians.
When Ardra appeared, Picard was able to prove that she was a con artist playing on Ventaxian fears. (TNG: "Devil's Due")
