Hydrocarbons are numerous and varied compounds consisting entirely of the two base elements, carbon and hydrogen, combined in many different ratios.

The Crystalline Entity left bitrious matter, elevated levels of hydrocarbons, lanthanides, and nitrates in its destructive wake. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar")

In 2371, the USS Voyager picked up traces of hydrocarbons in a vehicle drifting in space in the Delta Quadrant. It consisted of Benzene, Ethylene, and Acetylene - which are some of the constituents of gasoline (VOY: "The 37's")
