Data mistaken for an ice-man

For the nickname given to someone who is cool under pressure, please see Ice man.

Ice-men were a race of people believed by the pre-industrial Barkonians to live in the snow and ice of the Vellorian Mountains of their planet, Barkon IV. Skin and eye coloration of ice-men were theorized to have been different due to prolonged exposure to harsh winter conditions.

After suffering amnesia due to an energy discharge, the android Lieutenant commander Data was erroneously recognized as an ice-man by Talur, a scientist native of the planet, because of his pale physical features, odorless breath, slightly odd heartbeat, and remarkable set of teeth. When Data displayed his great strength, Talur theorized that such a trait would allow the ice-men to fight off the ferocious creatures which she believed dwelt in the Vellorian Mountains. (TNG: "Thine Own Self")
