Ireland is an island off the northwestern coast of the continent Europe on Earth. Its major city was called Dublin.

Ireland was also the name of a nation-state on this island. This nation was divided for some time, with the north being part of the nation-state known as "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". In 2024, Ireland was reunited as a result of violence used as a political instrument. This event became known as the Irish Unification of 2024. (TNG: "The High Ground") Ireland's flag was three vertical bands of green, white, and orange. (ENT: "First Flight")

The line concerning Irish reunification through terrorism resulted in "The High Ground" being cut from first-run transmission in the UK by the BBC, and for several years was never shown by the BBC or the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ. It was later broadcast on Sky One in second run syndication, although the specific line was cut.

In the late 20th century, Ireland was a founding member of the European Space Agency. (ENT: "First Flight")

Miles O'Brien was born in Ireland in 2328. His family lived in Dublin when O'Brien served aboard Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Homefront") O'Brien claimed to be a descendant of the Irish king Brian Boru. (DS9: "Bar Association")

In 2373, Enrique Muñiz told O'Brien that Ireland did not have mountains, it had hills. (DS9: "The Ship")

Kathryn Janeway's dog Mollie was an Irish Setter, a breed of dog native to Ireland. (VOY: "Caretaker", "Shattered")

In 2376, Kathryn Janeway and other members of the USS Voyager crew enjoyed visiting Fair Haven (Cuan Soineanta in Irish), a holodeck creation of a 19th century Irish village. Tom Paris created the simulation. Janeway was considered an aficionado of Irish culture. (VOY: "Fair Haven")
