The Irish language (Gaeilge) is the Celtic human language originating in the Earth region of Ireland. Irish is one of three modern Gaelic languages, a subgroup of Celtic, including Scottish Gaelic and Manx.
Irish language signage was used in the holodeck village of Fair Haven. (VOY: "Fair Haven", "Spirit Folk"). For example:
- Cuan Soineanta: fair (weather) harbor / refuge. Irish name for town of Fair Haven
- Oifig an Phoist: post office
- Fáilte: welcome, on sign outside pub
- Fáilte a Thaistealaí Thuirseach [sic]: Welcome Weary Traveller. Note error on sign as printed. Sign should read Fáilte a Thaistealaí Thuirsigh
- Siopa Búistéara: butcher's shop
Irish was also used for the name of the Bringloidi, an Irish-like people encountered by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D). The name derives from the Irish brionglóidí, meaning dreams (TNG: "Up the Long Ladder").
