Jack Palance was a 20th century actor on Earth. In 1953, he co-starred as the character Jack Wilson in the American Western film Shane.
Nog witnessed Palance's performance as Jack Wilson when the Ferengi viewed Shane while staying with Vic Fontaine on Deep Space 9's holosuite. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon")

Palance, a gruff veteran actor perhaps best-known for his Oscar-winning role in the 1991 film City Slickers, was going to play General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, but had to turn down the role due to scheduling conflicts with his work on City Slickers. The role ultimately went to Christopher Plummer (who had appeared with Palance in a 1955 episode of Toast of the Town).
Born Volodymyr Palanyuk in 1919, Palance died of natural causes in 2006.
