Janice D. Brandow (16 June 1938 – 25 January 2022; age 83) [1] was a hair stylist who worked on the Star Trek: Voyager first season episode "Caretaker". This work earned her an Emmy Award nomination in 1995 in the category Outstanding Individual Achievement in Hairstyling for a Series, which she shared with Josée Normand, Patricia Miller, Shawn McKay, Karen Asano-Myers, Dino Ganziano, Rebecca De Morrio, Barbara Minster, Gloria Ponce, Caryl Codon-Tharp, Katherine Rees, Virginia Kearns, Patricia Vecchio, Faith Vecchio, and Audrey Levy.
Brandow won an Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling in 1979 for her work on the television drama The Triangle Factory Fire Scandal. She received four nominations in the same category in the following years: 1981 for the television drama Father Damien: The Leper Priest, working with David Ogden Stiers and Irene Tsu, 1983 for the television drama Missing Children: A Mother's Story, working with makeup artist Jim Kail, 1984 for the television mini series George Washington, shared with Shirley Crawford, and 1985 for the television mini series The Atlanta Child Murders. Brandow received a fifth Emmy Award nomination in 1987 in the category Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling for a Miniseries or a Special for her work on the television mini series A Year in the Life.
Brandow's career as hair stylist started in the 1970s when she worked on the television movies The Honorable Sam Houston (1975), The Kansas City Massacre (1975, with Michael Westmore), Katherine (1975), and Having Babies (1976, with James Lee McCoy) as well as the comedy series Mary Tyler Moore (1977).
Further credits as hair stylist include The Fantastic Seven (1979), the comedy Marathon (1980), the western Hard Country (1981), The Fall Guy (1981, working with Ken Diaz), Cat People (1982, starring Malcolm McDowell and working with Edouard F. Henriques, Bari Burman, and Thomas R. Burman), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Scarface (1983, with Toni-Ann Walker), The Buddy System (1984), and the television movie Stark: Mirror Image (1986, starring Nicolas Surovy and Kirstie Alley).
In later years, Brandow worked as hair stylist on the television series In the Heat of the Night (1988), Falcon Crest (1989), CBS Summer Playhouse (1989), Columbo (1990, with Alan Scarfe, David Huddleston, and Cameron), City (1990, starring Stephen Lee, Shay Duffin, and guest star Bruce Davison), and Significant Others (1998, working with makeup department head David Abbott).
