Template:Realworld John E. Horton (1919–4 June 2006) was a public relations representative who served as a liaison between the United States government and feature film productions such as Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. He received a special thanks in the closing credits of Star Trek IV for his contribution to the film's production.
Born in Davenport, Iowa, Horton served in the United States Army during World War II. As a military and government relations liaison for Hollywood, he worked on number of productions, providing military services for filmmakers as well as access to military personnel and unclassified military equipment. In the case of Star Trek IV, he was able to permit the aircraft carrier USS Ranger to fill in as the USS Enterprise and for crewmembers of the Ranger to play Enterprise personnel.
In addition to Star Trek IV, Horton worked on a number of other films for Paramount Pictures, including Top Gun and The Hunt for Red October. Other films for which he provided services include Francis Ford Coppola's The Mission, Rob Reiner's A Few Good Men, and Clint Eastwood's In the Line of Fire. He died in 2006 in Seabrook Island, South Carolina.
