Kantare were an humanoid species from the planet Kantare. This planet was located in the Beta Quadrant.

History[]

As of 2129, the Kantare had established a colony on the planet Kotara Barath. They were known for their advanced holographic technology, which they had developed before this time.

Her father, Ezral, was the chief engineer of the ship which crashed on an unidentified planet following an ion storm in 2129. She was a child when the accident happened – Trip Tucker speculated that she was five or six when the ship crashed, suggesting she as born around 2123. Her father blamed himself for the accident, as he had abandoned his post in engineering in order to save her, reasoning at the time that his team might be able to handle the repair work whereas he knew that Liana would be killed if the ship crashed while she was in their quarters near the bottom of the ship. A holographic crew was eventually created for her companionship in 2131.

T'Pol and Tucker discover Kantare

In 2151, an alien trader named D'Marr engaged in a conversation with the Human Captain Jonathan Archer of the Enterprise (NX-01) regarding the possibility of acquiring spare engineering parts and materials. Although D'Marr specialized in exotic goods, he provided coordinates to a nearby planet where a crashed ship was rumored to be haunted. Intrigued, Archer and a team from Enterprise, including T'Pol, Trip, and Travis Mayweather, decided to investigate the mysterious ship. Upon reaching the planet, the away team discovered the crashed ship exactly as predicted by D'Marr. However, they found no power signatures or life signs. Despite some initial hesitation, Archer led the team into the ship, uncovering a hidden area shielded by a dampening field and filled with lush vegetation. To their surprise, they encountered the surviving crew and colony, who had been stranded there for approximately three years. The Kantare colonists explained that they had been attacked by unknown aliens during their journey home, which forced them to crash-land on the planet. To avoid revealing their position, they refrained from sending distress calls and created the illusion of the ship being haunted. Archer offered assistance, and Tucker, with his expertise in repairs, began working on restoring the ship's systems. Liana the youngest of the Kantare wanted to know more about the ship and the Humans homeworld even though her father disapproved. She became romantically interested in Trip. When the crew becomes suspicious of the circumstances of the crash, they were attacked by the holographic Kantare. Liana took the holograms off line and told the crew of her father's ruse. Later, she planned to eventually leave the planet with her father once the holographic crew had got the ship operational, and hoped keenly that she and Trip would meet again. (ENT: "Oasis")

Physiology[]

The Kantare possessed a humanoid physiology similar to that of Humans. They had two arms, two legs, and a head with sensory organs such as eyes, ears, and a mouth. The scale-like markings on their heads were a unique feature of their appearance, adding to their distinctiveness. (ENT: "Oasis")

The Kantare were known for their advanced technological capabilities, particularly in the field of holography. They had developed sophisticated holographic technology that played a significant role in their society and culture. The Kantare's mastery of holographic technology allowed them to create immersive and realistic virtual environments. They utilized holographic projections for various purposes, including entertainment, companionship, and communication. Holographic companions served as social interactions and provided companionship to individuals within their community. These interactive holographic entities were capable of simulating realistic Human-like interactions, fostering a sense of connection and alleviating feelings of isolation.

In addition to holography, the Kantare also displayed expertise in other areas of technology. They possessed advanced knowledge in fields such as propulsion systems, energy generation, and computer technology. The created a Kantare supply ship an unarmed starship that was used to transport supplies from planet to planet during the early 22nd century. They were equipped with escape pods for use in an emergency. The ship's hull was composed of duratanium and beryllium.(ENT: "Oasis")

The name of this species, and the quadrant that their homeworld was located in, was not identified in the episode, but instead comes from the final draft script of "Oasis", and a reference found at StarTrek.com. [1] The costumes for the Kantare also feature tags that state 'Kantare aliens'.
In the final draft script of "Oasis", the Kantare were at first merely described as "humanoid aliens." A later description referred to them as "a mix of men and women, of varying ages from thirties to sixties." For the first scene in which multiple Kantare appear (a crowd scene), precisely eighteen members of the species were scripted to be present.
