A graphic of the binary star system

The Kavis Alpha sector is the site of an unusual neutron star/red giant star system. The neutron star goes through a cycle of sucking matter from the nearby red giant, and explosively expelling the matter into space, every 196 years.

In 2366, Doctor Paul Stubbs recorded this historic event, from the USS Enterprise-D, using a customized probe known as "The Egg". (TNG: "Evolution")

  • Kavis Alpha A (primary, neutron star)
  • Kavis Alpha B (primary, red giant)
The graphic of the binary star system in the Kavis Alpha sector would be seen in Captain Jean-Luc Picard's quarters for the rest of the series.
