Kay E. Kuter (25 April 1925 – 12 November 2003; age 78) was the stage, film, and television actor who played the Cytherian in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fourth season episode "The Nth Degree" in 1991. Later, he appeared in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine first season episode "The Storyteller" as the Sirah. Kuter filmed his scene for "The Nth Degree" not during the principal shooting and did not work with the other actors. His face was later digitally inserted.
Born as Kay Edwin Emmert Kuter in Los Angeles, California, he began his acting career in the mid-1950s with a number of small television and film roles, many uncredited. In 1964, he got a regular recurring role as Newt Kiley on Petticoat Junction and Green Acres until 1970.
Kuter appeared in a number of films including The Last Starfighter (1984, with Meg Wyllie, Marc Alaimo, Barbara Bosson, Geoffrey Blake, Norman Snow, Dan Mason, and Wil Wheaton), Zombie High (1987, with Virginia Madsen and Richard Cox), Gross Anatomy (1989, with Tracee Cocco), The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000), and his final appearance Forbidden Warrior (2004).
He also worked with other Star Trek alumni in Seinfeld (1993, with Jason Alexander, Molly Hagan, Jana Marie Hupp), and Estelle Harris), Frasier (1996, with Kelsey Grammer) and The Pretender (1999, with Jessica Gaona, Amy Wheaton, Ryan Bollman and games performer James McDonnell).
Kuter died of pulmonary complications at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, California in 2003.
