Kelis was a poet and playwright on a L-classplanet that B'Elanna Torres crash-landed on in 2376.

He discovered her, and tendered to her wounds. She needed dilithuim to power her shuttle, and Kelis offered to provide her with the dilithuim if she provided him with stories about her adventures onVoyager. He would use the material to write a play about the "eternals" of Voyager. He hoped that the play would ease tensions between rival heads of clans on the planet and avert a war. He used these plays to entertain the local warload who had become insulted by a patron of Kelis over a dowry.

He would also provide other supplies and food to Torres as she was repairing her shuttle. Torres in turn helps him rehearse the play, but they cannot come up with an ending. When the shuttle is repaired, Torres joins Kelis and takes part in his play. Kelis and her perform an ending. The warlord is pleased and war is averted, as Torres beams to her shuttle.
