Doctor Ketteract was a 23rd century Federation physicist who synthesized a single Omega molecule.

The energy released from his creation killed Ketteract and hundreds of his research colleagues. It also ripped open the fabric of subspace and made the Lantaru sector impassable to standard warp drive travel. (VOY: "The Omega Directive")

According to the non-canon TOS novel Cloak, his full name was Bendes Ketteract.
Ketteract was also mentioned in Star Trek: Legacy.
