(written from a Production point of view)
Kevin Bell is a visual effects artist who specializes in digital compositing. He was a digital compositor for Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) on 2009's Star Trek. He worked on Star Trek for four months, from July 2008 through October 2008.
Bell attended the University of California at San Diego from 1992 through 1996, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Starting in 2000, he worked for three years at the private animation company Wild Brain, after which he was hired by the visual effects studio Giant Killer Robots (GKR). While at GKR, he worked on such films as The Matrix Revolutions, Blade: Trinity, Fantastic Four, Poseidon, and Happy Feet.
After three years and eleven months at GKR, Bell moved on to ILM. During his six months at ILM, he worked on such films as Transformers (written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and Evan Almighty. He then did compositing for the film Speed Racer for Evil Eye Pictures; like Star Trek, Speed Racer was composed by Michael Giacchino.
From April through June of 2008, Bell worked on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor as an employee of Digital Domain. He then returned to ILM to work on Star Trek. He is currently employed at the privately-held effects company The Orphanage.
