Kira Meru (2346).

Kira Meru - Dukat

Kira Meru and Gul Dukat (2346).

Kira Meru (played by Leslie Hope) was a Bajoran woman, born in 2314. She later married Kira Taban and had at least three children, Kira Nerys, Kira Reon, and Kira Pohl. She was a skilled icon painter. (DS9: "Second Skin")

In 2346, during the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, she and her family lived at the Singha refugee camp. Meru was chosen by Basso Tromac, a Bajoran collaborator, to serve as a comfort woman aboard Terok Nor. There, she became Gul Dukat's consort, which she accepted as her family received special treatment as a result. Meru continued to live with Dukat in relative luxury until her death seven years later in a Cardassian hospital.

Back on Bajor, Kira Taban told his children that Meru had died in the camp, to protect them from the truth. However, many years later in 2374, Dukat contacted Kira Nerys on what would have been Meru's sixtieth birthday and told her that he and Meru had been lovers. Unsettled by the possibility, Kira travelled back in time using the Orb of Time and met Meru, under the guise of Luma Rahl. There, she confirmed that Dukat was telling the truth after they were both taken to Terok Nor.

Disgusted that Meru seemed to be falling in love with Dukat, Kira eventually participated in an assassination attempt on both of them by planting an ultritium bomb. Just before the bomb went off, Kira heard a taped message from her father to her mother. He thanked Meru for the sacrifice she made that saved their lives. Because of her, Dukat has seen to it that her husband and children were taken care of. Kira realized her mother's true intentions, and she forgave her. At the last moment she changed her mind and warned them, sparing their lives. The Orb of Time brought Kira back to the present during the explosion.

Meru's favorite flower was Bajoran lilac. (DS9: "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night")
