The Kohn-Ma were a Bajoran terrorist/separatist splinter group that operated during and after the Occupation of Bajor. They opposed any outside influence on Bajor, including the Federation. The later-formed Alliance for Global Unity held similar beliefs and goals.

In the 2350s, Surmak Ren was a secret member of the Kohn-Ma splinter group while he "officially" was a member of the Higa Metar resistance sect. Some members of this sect were informants and told the Cardassians about his Kohn-Ma involvement, as he actually was responsible for several "disruptive" acts of the Kohn-Ma. This information was in Dr. Surmak's file in the Bajoran Archival Records as of 2369. (DS9: "Babel")

In 2369, the Kohn-Ma claimed responsibility for the assassination of one of Bajor's First Ministers. A month later, when Deep Space 9 was under Starfleet and Bajoran control, Kohn-Ma terrorist Tahna Los threatened to destroy the Bajoran wormhole in an effort to make Bajor less attractive to the Federation. He felt the Federation was only involved in Bajor because of the wormhole. Part of his scheme was an attempt to gain amnesty for himself and two others, which was necessary to gain access to a runabout which was required for his plan. It ultimately failed and the Bajoran Provisional Government arrested him. (DS9: "Past Prologue")

In a Cardassian Intelligence file, read by Commander Sisko in 2369, Tahna Los was described as notorious and it was reported that Kira Nerys had some association with this sect. According to this file, Tahna Los was the organizer of this group. (DS9: "Battle Lines")

Apocrypha[]

The Star Trek: Terok Nor novels Night of the Wolves and Dawn of the Eagles establish that the Kohn-Ma is named after its leaders Kohn Biran (β) and Ma Jouvirna (β).

In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel Betrayal, a Bajoran monk named Leiris (β) places several bombs around Deep Space 9 in 2370, including one in Garak's shop. At the scene of each bomb, Leiris places a poster spouting anti-alien sentiment signed by the Kohn-Ma. It is later revealed that he is working for the Cardassians.

In the novel Fearful Symmetry, set in an alternate timeline, Jennifer Sisko is killed during a Kohn-Ma attack on Cardassia Prime while Benjamin Sisko is there negotiating the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor on behalf of the Federation Diplomatic Corps.

The novel A Stitch in Time gives the spelling of the group as Khon-Ma.
