"When they put me out to pasture I hope I fare better than Korrd."
-James T. Kirk (2287)

General Korrd was a Klingon Field Commander for the Klingon Imperial Command and consul to the planet Nimbus III in 2287.

Korrd's early service to the Klingon Empire led to his rise to high rank, and lasting fame as a great strategist, even in the Federation. By the 2250s, his strategies had become required reading at Starfleet Academy, and he was held in high regard by officers like James T. Kirk.

However, unknown events brought an effective end to his military career, and by 2287, Korrd had been reduced to a diplomat, serving as the Klingon consul to the consistently ignored diplomatic mission on "The Planet of Galactic Peace". Now corpulent, drunk and apathetic, he found a somewhat kindred spirit in the cynical Federation envoy, St. John Talbot, and derisively mocked the wide-eyed enthusiasm of his recently arriving Romulan counterpart, Caithlin Dar.

After the eccentric Vulcan Sybok raised the Galactic Army of Light and captured Paradise City, Korrd and the other representatives fell under his influence and helped lure the USS Enterprise-A to Nimbus III. Korrd joined the voyage to find the mythical Qui'Tu, beyond the Great Barrier, in the center of the galaxy. After the entity they discovered proved to be a malevolent prisoner, Korrd shook off the years of disgrace and displaced the reckless young Captain Klaa from his command, enabling the rescue of Captain Kirk. (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)

Background

Korrd was played by actor Charles Cooper. The spelling of Korrd's name as "Koord" can be seen both the Star Trek Encyclopedia, and in fine print of Korrd's bioscreen, whereas the larger print reads "Korrd." The PC game adaptation of STV also spells his name as "Korrd".

The novelization of STV elaborates on his backstory; Korrd became a proponent of the cessation of hostilities after all his children fell in combat, and only managed to avoid death because his brother-in-law was the KDF's second-in-command.

Korrd is also written into the novelization of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, in which film he does not appear. He is one of Chancellor Gorkon's advisors, advising rapproachment with the Federation, in contrast to the hot-headed advice of Brigadier Kerla. He is present in Gorkon's chamber when Starfleet Yeomen Burke and Samno enter and assassinate the Chancellor, and is severely wounded. As of his last mention in the novel, he is still in critical condition in the infirmary.
