Paul is may be best known for his performance as Norman Bates in the Psycho spoof Bates Motel (1987, with Lori Petty, Gregg Henry, Kerrie Keane, Robert Picardo, and John Kenton Shull), his recurring role as coroner Normal Blates in the television series Sledge Hammer (1986-1987, alongside Leslie Morris and Patti Tippo), and his role as Raymond Linette in the horror sequel Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990).

Paul also portrayed characters in the comedy Skatetown, U.S.A.
