Hutet labor camp

Hutet labor camp

A labor camp or work camp was a type of prison camp where prisoners were forced to perform labor.

Examples[]

Breen[]

The Breen established a labor camp on Dozaria in 2366, where they forced the survivors of the crashed transport Ravinok to mine dilithium. The camp was liberated by Major Kira Nerys and Gul Dukat in 2372. (DS9: "Indiscretion")

Cardassian[]

The Cardassians kept labor camps on Bajor during the Occupation. In these labor camps operation was often aided by collaborators and some of the attractive women from the camps were taken to be comfort women for Cardassian soldiers. Bajoran religion within the camps was prohibited. Conditions in the camps were often brutal and hostile and the camps were often the targets for liberation by the Bajoran Resistance.

The Bajoran farmer Mullibok escaped from a Cardassian labor camp on Bajor during the occupation in 2329 and found a new home on the moon Jerrado. (DS9: "Progress")

The Cardassians maintained the Hutet labor camp on Cardassia IV, which was overseen by a prefect. In this camp Bajorans, including Li Nalas, were still held for labor despite Cardassian claims all such prisoners had been released. After Li and other prisoners were freed by Kira Nerys and Miles O'Brien in 2370, the remaining prisoners were released and sent home to Bajor. (DS9: "The Homecoming")

The Cardassians also used labor camps as punishment against Cardassian criminals. Doctor Parmak was one such person incarcerated. (DS9: "The Die is Cast")

In 2371, Seska claimed that her blood lacked common Bajoran blood factors due to Orkett's disease, which swept through the Bajoran work camps and killed thousands of children. (VOY: "State of Flux")

Emerald Chain[]

The Emerald Chain operated a work camp that was powered by a massive geothermal energy source. In the late 32nd century, Oros and Ruon Tarka were enslaved there and forced to build a warp core, though they were secretly also working on an interdimensional transporter. The Chain eventually closed down the camp. Years later in 3190, Tarka led Cleveland Booker there to retrieve a stash of programmable antimatter. (DIS: "The Galactic Barrier")

Romulan[]

Fallit Kot was incarcerated for eight years in a Romulan camp for stealing a shipment of Romulan ale in 2362. (DS9: "Melora")

When Tallera questioned Picard (as Galen) about his actions aboard Arctus Baran's ship in 2370, he refused to answer her as they weren't in a Romulan labor camp. (TNG: "Gambit, Part II")
