Lupaza was a member of the Shakaar resistance cell and, as such, fought the Cardassians during the Occupation of Bajor.
In 2355, Lupaza met young Kira Nerys, who wanted to join the resistance. Although the rest of the cell found Kira too young, Lupaza felt that Kira had the heart of a sinoraptor and supported her. After Kira's first mission, Lupaza made her a Bajoran earring out of the metal of a destroyed skimmer.
In 2371, Shakaar refused to return soil reclamators to Kai Winn, who had become acting first minister of Bajor. That evening, Lupaza had dinner with Furel, Shakaar, and Kira, the latter of whom had been sent by Kai Winn to convince Shakaar to return the equipment and caught up on old times with her friends during their reunion, including gently questioning Furel as to why he had not had his arm replaced. Upon learning that this was because Furel thought doing so would be disrespectful to the Prophets to whom he had prayed for the strength to save his comrades, Lupaza was moved.
