Lyndon Baines Johnson was a 20th century Human politician who served as the 36th President of the United States. He had previously served as Vice President of the United States of America under John F. Kennedy, becoming President following Kennedy's assassination in 1963. (TOS: "The Cage")

An image depicting then-Vice President Johnson, taken during Kennedy's 1961 "Decision to Go to the Moon" speech, was scanned by the Talosians as they reviewed the library computer files on board USS Enterprise in 2254. (TOS-R: "The Cage")

In 1963, Vice President Johnson took his oath of office to become president, following the assassination of Kennedy, while en route to Washington, DC. (TOS-R: "The Cage")

In 1968, launch director Cromwell asked for a direct telephone line to Johnson, to inform him about the malfunction of the nuclear missile, launched from McKinley Rocket Base, which could've ended in a possible World War III. (TOS: "Assignment: Earth")

The original version of "The Cage" depicted a simple sketch of Johnson (shown below, left) during the Talosian's scan of the Enterprise computers. Johnson was in office when "The Cage" was filmed and at the time of the first two and half seasons of Star Trek between 1966 and 1968. Thus, he was the last President to be seen on the databank records in the pilot.
Johnson was not named in dialog in "Assignment: Earth", but the established timeframe of the episode (1968) indicates, he was the President of the United States at the time the events took place.
William Shatner cast Laurence Luckinbill as Sybok in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier after seeing Luckinbill portray Johnson in a 1987 TV film for PBS.
