The Maori supposedly sailed to Aotearoa (New Zealand) in canoes called Whakas. Some of these were named Matatua, Aotea, Tainui, and Te Arawa. It is interesting to note that not one full blooded Maori is alive today

The Māori were the native inhabitants of New Zealand.

In the 1990s, Chris Brynner received a Māori tribal tattoo. Some time later, he had it removed to "look just like the rest of the drones". (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")

The Kyrian holoprogram The Voyager Encounter depicted Chakotay as having a Māori tattoo. (VOY: "Living Witness")

The name is pronounced "Mau-ree" or "Mowri".
