M. [Michael] Shayne Bell (born 19 February 1957; age 67) is an Idaho-born American science fiction author.

Best known for his short stories, he published his only full length novel, Nicoji in 1991. He began publishing short stories in 1986 with his most recent coming in 2003. In 1995, he published a collection of short stories in his anthology Washed by a Wave of Wind.

In 2002, his short story "Life Itself Is Reason Enough", a Star Trek: The Next Generation tale, was published in The Amazing Stories.

Bell is a Mormon, and currently lives in Salt Lake City. He attended Brigham Young University. This background, and his life in Utah and Idaho, has provided inspiration for much of his work.
