Madge Sinclair portrayed the captain of the USS Saratoga in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. She was the first female captain to be seen on Star Trek. She also played the part of Captain Silva La Forge in TNG: "Interface," the mother of LeVar Burton's Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge and wife of Ben Vereen's Edward M. La Forge.
In the 1977 miniseries Roots, she played Bell, wife of Burton's Kunta Kinte (a.k.a. Toby Reynolds) and grandmother of Vereen's Chicken George.
Madge Sinclair died from leukemia on December 20, 1995, at the age of 57.
