A maid was an individual, usually female, that assisted with housekeeping duties.
After appearing in France with Jean-Luc Picard three and a half billion years in the past, Q complained about the smell of sulfur and volcanic ash, saying he must speak to the maid. (TNG: "All Good Things...")
In 1893, when a time traveling Data offered to work at the Hotel Brian, the bellboy said they were pretty happy with the maid they already had. (TNG: "Time's Arrow")
